Hi everyone, I’m Dipo close friends and family call me Swizz. I am an avid football lover, then again isn’t every guy? As you must have deduced from the title of this post; I rep Manchester United. I officially joined the league of Red Devils in 1994. I watched my 1st United game in April 9th of 1999. I’ll never forget the feeling. I listened to my elders talk about the ManUtd greats like George Best and Eric Cantona. Best the ladies man was famous for his sheer brilliance with a football and Cantona, known for his I don’t give a damn attitude on and off the pitch. Watching clips of them proved that they were indeed great players playing for the greatest team in the world.
Back to the 1st United game I watched. It was by no means extraordinary, in truth it was an average performance. We played Wimbledon and it ended 1-1. However I suspected this was a team that would conquer the football world. They didn’t let me down, that same year ManUtd won the famous treble (The League, FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League). I am a big fan of beautiful football. I admire Arsenal and Barca’s style of play and also that Brazilian side at USA 1994. My passion for ManUtd isn’t about our ability to keep possession of the ball or individual brilliance. Rather it’s the never say die attitude (ask the Bayern Munich side of 1999 they witnessed our might first hand).
Without a doubt, this attitude is thanks to Sir Alex Ferguson; one of the most successful managers in modern football history. His resume speaks for him. My friends call me a diehard ManUtd fan, they are right. No matter the outcome or outlook of the game, you will find me arguing in United’s favour. Now here is where you call me paranoid, before every game I think of what people might say if we lose and I prepare counter arguments. Trust me, I’ll never run out of excuses to defend my team whenever we are unfortunate enough to lose and I assure you a loss is rather rare. My saddest day as a ManUtd fan till date was our loss to Chelsea at home last season (2009/2010 season). It cost us the league title. Chelsea went on to win the English Premier league by a single point.
Arsenal fans are my biggest critics and I have a multitude of friends that root for the Gunners. No offense intended, but dear Arsenal in the past 6 years what trophies can you call your own? In pidgin parlance “Na me get bragging rights” Realistically though una no dey tire to dey talk no worry we go win next season? Lol. I kid, after all if you start winning trophies who shall I tease? No one, so carry on Arsenal I love you just the way you are. I watched my first game at Old Trafford on the 16th of October, 2010. We played Westbromwich Albion and sadly it was another draw (I will not bother going to Wembley this year when we play in the Champions league final so I don’t jinx my team).
The atmosphere at Old Trafford is like nothing you can imagine. If you are a Red Devil, do add this to your bucket list. The Away fans were extremely charged, especially after the equalised. The game ended 2-2 but it was a great experience for me on a personal note. I do hope I haven’t bored you to death. That would be a shame because this is the 1st of many. If it’s about Manchester United, trust that I shall be screaming Red devils all the way. Cheers people, thank you for your time and do check back frequently.
Glory Glory Man Utd, Glory Glory Man Utd, Glory Glory Man Utd as the REDS go marching on on on

Nice… though I don’t take too kindly to being on other end of your jester’s stick. However, as an Arsenal die hard fan, I completely share your attitude as to almost always having an excuse for my team. Yes, the havent won a trophie in 6! Yes, it was highly irritating when they lost their chance at the Carling Cup this year when it was all but within their grasp! However, their past glory lives on – Try 49 unbeaten, maybe then I’ll change sides – and surely it will be relived soon. So yes, I have managed an ode to my beloved Gunners via one dedicated to the “devils”. Bang Bang, I shot u down!!!:)

Lovely write up,but u could have left Arsenal out in the actual sense. We have experienced a whole lot of glorious moments and I bet a staunch United fan would remember the years when the famous United had their trophy drought..
Ofc United is a great team, but thesame thing goes for Arsenal Fc.
……….A proud Gunner will I be till my last breath.
