Bad Bunny Wins Case, Moves to Recover $456,312 From emPawa Africa
Bad Bunny and his legal team are taking the next step following their courtroom victory, asking a federal court to order emPawa Africa—founded by Mr Eazi—to pay $456,312 in legal fees.
The request comes after a copyright lawsuit tied to Bad Bunny’s track Enséñame a Bailar from his album Un Verano Sin Ti was dismissed. The case was initially filed by Nigerian producer Dera, who alleged that the song borrowed elements from Joeboy’s Empty My Pocket.
However, the court threw out the case due to missed deadlines and a failure to actively pursue the claims—effectively handing Bad Bunny and his team the win.
What stands out now is who the legal fees are being directed at. Rather than seeking payment from the producer behind the lawsuit, Bad Bunny’s team is targeting emPawa Africa, arguing that the label played a key role in backing and pushing the case financially.
This move adds a new layer to the situation, shifting the focus from the original copyright claim to the financial aftermath of the legal battle. It also highlights how labels can become central figures in disputes that go beyond just the artists themselves.
