Diary of A Man Utd Fan
Game: Manchester United Vs Fulham FC
Venue: Old Trafford
Competition : League Match
United fight for another 3 points as the league hits its climax. I felt very confident before the start of this game, I think it hassomething to do with Old Trafford being a fortress this season (just 2 draws and no loss in all competitions). Even though Fulham have been known to cause problems for in times past us, I wasn’t worried, United had a fully fit squad. My confidence level was really high so I did not bother cooking up excuses in case we lose. My only fear going into the game was seeing Bobby Zamora in the Fulham side but a tree does not make a forest. I was glad to see my boy Anderson after his Injury spell. Rooney our main man over the last 10 games was suspended (Blame on the English FA)
Our starting line up looked pretty good. Unlike our last two games I had zero concerns. The game started well for United though Fulham had a chance or two. United’s wingers Nani and Valencia were having a field day against Baird and Salcido respectively. Nani was the architect of our 1st goal, he skipped past Danny Murphy and Dickson Etuhu before playing a one two with Anderson who set up Berbatov for his 21st league goal of the season in the 11th minute. Man Utd took firm control of the game with Anderson coming close to scoring in the 19th minute. 32 minutes into the game Evra floats a pass to Nani deep in the Fulham half. Nani then races to the Fulham goal before setting up Valencia for our 2nd goal (Nani’s 15th assist in the league) and from then on it was all about Man Utd.
The 1st half ended 2-0 and I looked forward to more United goals in the 2nd half.
The 2nd half started just like the 1st with United attacking from all angles. Once again Anderson came close to hitting the net. His effort forced a save from Fulham’s Mark Schwazer. United took their foot ofthe Pedal for most of the 2nd half allowing Fulham take control of the game. Thankfully nothing tangible came Fulham’s way. It is good to see Antonio Valencia almost back to his best. I noticed Sir Alex Ferguson wasn’t paying much attention to the game (Perhaps his horse was racing at that time). While I’m a little disappointed we didn’t add to our goals tally all that matters is we bagged all 3points. Besides a two nil scoreline is pretty decent. United are now 6 games or less away from winning their 19th league title. It was a good victory for us and I am sure the London Lads (Arsenal and Chelsea) must be miffed at United’s excellent closing form.
It wasn’t hard to pick my man of the match. I gladly hand the award to Antonio Valencia. Special mentions go to Nani and Anderson for a wonderful display of attacking football. United’s next game is on Tuesday night (2nd leg of our champions league ¼ match with Chelsea). This match is definitely not for the faint hearted. Fingers crossed I won’t have to make up any exscuses.
Thanks again for your time guys. God bless.
