Dama do Bling was born Ivannea Jose in Mozambique. Dama do Bling is the queen of Mozambican hip hop and may be one of the best female rappers from Africa. Dama do Bling has been referred to as Mozambique’s Lil Kim.
Her music can be classified as hip hop but has elements of crunk as well as local Mozambican music. She grew up imitating and performing tracks of stars like Da Brat and Queen Latifah.
In 2005, she featured on two tracks on Lizha James’ album. They are both signed to Bang Entertainment. The next year, she released her debut single called ‘Haterz’. Her self-titled album followed soon and featured artistes like Catya, Denny OG, DRP, Hernani and Lizha James of course. She released her second album called ‘Chamadas Para A Bling’ in 2007.
In October 2007 she was nominated in four categories for Channel O Music Video Awards, in the categories of “Best Female Video,” “Best Video of the Southern Africa”, “Video of the year” and “Director of video” which she won two of them: “Best Female Video,” “Best southern At the same month, she released her second CD entitled “Chamadas Para A Bling,” In November 2007 she won a prize for Best Music Radio 99Fm, a radio station with the song “Chamadas Para A Bling”.
In April 2008 she launches her first book “O Diário de uma Irreverente” that portrays the life of the artist. In September 2008 she is nominated for the MTV Music Video Awards in the category of “Best Female Video” held in Abuja, Nigeria where she lived with African artists and North American also such as The Game, Kelly Rowland and Flo-Rida.
