The 2016 MTV Base VJ Search – Nigeria on MTV Base (DStv channel 322) finally came to an end on Friday 23 September with 23-year-old Olayinka Oladiran, who hails from Abeokuta , winning the highly coveted spot from four others.
The show, which took place at Truffles Restaurant and Bar, GRA Ikeja at about 6pm, was hosted by 2013 MTV Base VJ Search winner, Ehizojia “Ehiz” Okoeguale. The likes of Viacom executives Alex Okosi and Katung Aduwak, Olisa Adibua, Vector Tha Viper, Ikechukwu, Niniola, Koker, Jimmie Akinsola, among many others , turned up for the intimate event where everyone was treated to nicely made and tasteful small chops, drinks, and good music.
Hilarious audition tapes taken from some parts of the country were played to help douse the tensed up atmosphere, created majorly by the four finalists Tomiwa Olorunfemi (23), Tochukwu Onwubiko (21) and 19-year-old twins, Grace and Glory Danbaki , who all sat gingerly on their stools as they anxiously awaited the result.
This was followed by each contestant speaking on their experience thus far, attributing it to probably the best times of their lives yet. The result finally came in and Ehiz, did the honours announcing Olayinka Oladiran aka, K’Ola as the winner due to her bubbly personality, relaxed stage presence, and the ability to relate to the audience.
The event came to an end with Alex Okosi, announcing that the remaining four finalists will also be awarded contracts as VJ’s on a couple of new shows
