This song is a fresh breath of air, in terms of musical choices ever to have come out from someone named Davido. Couldn’t you just hear how effective this collaboration sounded? And I’m not even talking literally. Davido brought his studio-refined popesque vocals that played very nicely to the auditory canals especially when it ran into a harmonious duet with the skillful contralto of the petite-sized belle, Tinashe, who also experimented singing in the native Yoruba dialect.
Quite obvious is the fact that Davido veered a little too much off his usual style of afro-influenced sounds on ‘How Long’ which can be categorized in the genre of house music. Still, he maintains originality with his musical improvisation while adapting to this new wave. And the lyrics are not titrated like what we’ve known him all too well for since his career advanced these past years. The overall blend immediately relays his grasp on achieving a balance in musical chemistry with an artiste other than himself or the male folk. While it appeared that Davido had exhausted the limits to his unidirectional take on music, this Sony deal signing has put him in light of better elements to which we are yet to fully see and experience him. So in much as we want to tout the efforts (or isit attempts now) at evolving our star brand to an audience of broader horizon, the bitter truth remains that the core of his fans do not respond well to musical choices such as this and thus would suffer some profiling if this lets up any longer than tolerated. Notwithstanding, we refused to stay blinded to the fact that it’s some really good fine stuff... no need to hate!
