Top 10 Hottest Rap Songs In Africa (2015)

Posted by Jim Donnett on November 17, 2015 in Editorial · 25 Comments

The rap culture from inside Africa has started to make it’s rounds onto the global terrain especially with how bad mans, Sarkodie, AKA and Cassper Nyovest haven’t relented in pushing the envelope. Them alongside the likes of Vector, Phyno and Khuli Chana, have tailored their craft using influences from the upper west side to create sounds and rhythms that have formed the template for practicing the rap art in Africa.

TooXclusive presents J.O’s compilation of the “top 10 hottest rap songs in Africa“, this 2015.

10) AKA – “Baddest” ft. Yanga, Khuli Chana & Burna Boy

Baddest-400x400

Already a summer hit without a video, AKA collaborates once again to bring that fire. Baddest which was released just after the internet wrecking jab joint Composure, concludes our top 10 after it has been gaining a lot of radio air plays and topping charts all over the continent and beyond.

9) Vector – “King Kong Remix” ft. Phyno, Reminisce, Classiq & Uzi

With a monster remix to his single King Kong, Vector gets back the attention of rap lovers in western Africa and all around the continent. A unique sound with a great vibe, this remix makes it onto our top 10 as a sure fire rap song from Africa.

8) Cassper Nyovest – “Mama I Made It”

Refiloe

Fire after fire, Cassper puts out a song which is gradually becoming a motto around Africa for kids and hustlers. Garnered over a hundred thousand views on YouTube few days after its release without a TV airplay, Mama I Made It is that song every one wants to sing as soon as they hit their goal in life.

7) Reminisce – “Local Rappers” ft. Olamide & Phyno

Loco

3 of Nigeria’s biggest rappers right now collaborate on arguably one of the biggest rap songs in Nigeria. The song which raised a lot of eyebrows after it’s release has almost become an anthem on the Nigerian hip-hop scene with the lingo Local Rappers gradually sticking in the minds of Nigerian hip-hop music lovers.

6) Riky Rick – “Boss Zonke”

riky-rick-boss-zonke

Rapper/producer had a really super year with his album Family Values, certified gold by RISA and also winning Best Video at the 2015 MTV MAMAs.Boss Zonke isn’t so different from the regular Riky Rick but trust me when I say this record is straight up FIRE!!

5) Phyno – “Oringo”

Phyno

Nigerian hip-hop front man who has been on top since his release of Ghostmode featuring another Nigerian hit maker, Olamide, comes correct on this banging hip-hop tune with an amazing video to compliment it. KUPU!!

4) K.O – One time ft. Maggz, MaE & Masandi

K.O - One Time Cover

Sixth single off the SA rap head’s album, Skhanda Republic, features fellow Cashtimers, with all artistes delivering at their best while tackling their topics head on. One Time is a solid rap record straight out of Africa and has been making waves since the release of it’s video.

3) AKA – “Composure”

AKA

Super rap song with a very vibe-able hook, a diss track which stemmed from a lot of things and with very few name calling but mainly directed to his one-time friend, Cassper Nyovest and producer, Anatii who had collaborated with him on Saga. Composure had the internet going crazy after it’s release and went on to be the number 1 song on the African Hip-Hop chart on iTunes.

2) Cassper Nyovest – “Dust 2 Dust”

Cassper Nyovest - Dust 2 Dust-ART

The South African rap king comes correct with his diss track Dust 2 Dust a reply to AKA‘s Composure which had the internet on a frenzy after it was uploaded by DJ Milkshake. Cassper hits hard with a lot of exposure as the internet had tagged it. Dust 2 Dust garnered over 100k downloads in minutes and was mainly the topic of most tweeters on the day of it’s release.

1) Sarkodie – New Guy ft. Ace Hood

Sarkodie-Ace-Hood-New-Guy-Art

Often regarded as the king of African hip-hop after his almost back-to-back BET nominations, Sarkodie who has always had that fire, and crazy videos to back that up, tops our list with his track New Guy which features American rapper and Bugatti hit maker, Ace Hood. Several covers floated on the net after his release and for a long time was the most talked about hip-hop record on the continent, unarguably one of the biggest hip-hop records of 2015.

    • South Africans go hard doesn’t mean those Nigerian records weren’t hot hiphop records this year.

  14. The kind of songs that now pass as ‘hiphop’ saddens my heart. No doubt all these songs are good, but hey i really think the underground rappers are the ones giving us the real hiphop. Talk about Boogey, Kahli Abdu, i can go on and on and on… Well, i’m wondering why ‘Cash Only’ is not on this list.

  15. From the first place i belive wizkid is better than davido becouse he know how to sing and understandable more than him
