The rap culture from inside Africa has started to make it’s rounds onto the global terrain especially with how bad mans, Sarkodie, AKA and Cassper Nyovest haven’t relented in pushing the envelope. Them alongside the likes of Vector, Phyno and Khuli Chana, have tailored their craft using influences from the upper west side to create sounds and rhythms that have formed the template for practicing the rap art in Africa.
TooXclusive presents J.O’s compilation of the “top 10 hottest rap songs in Africa“, this 2015.
10) AKA – “Baddest” ft. Yanga, Khuli Chana & Burna Boy
9) Vector – “King Kong Remix” ft. Phyno, Reminisce, Classiq & Uzi
8) Cassper Nyovest – “Mama I Made It”
7) Reminisce – “Local Rappers” ft. Olamide & Phyno
3 of Nigeria’s biggest rappers right now collaborate on arguably one of the biggest rap songs in Nigeria. The song which raised a lot of eyebrows after it’s release has almost become an anthem on the Nigerian hip-hop scene with the lingo “Local Rappers“ gradually sticking in the minds of Nigerian hip-hop music lovers.
6) Riky Rick – “Boss Zonke”
Rapper/producer had a really super year with his album Family Values, certified gold by RISA and also winning Best Video at the 2015 MTV MAMAs. “Boss Zonke“ isn’t so different from the regular Riky Rick but trust me when I say this record is straight up FIRE!!
5) Phyno – “Oringo”
Nigerian hip-hop front man who has been on top since his release of Ghostmode featuring another Nigerian hit maker, Olamide, comes correct on this banging hip-hop tune with an amazing video to compliment it. KUPU!!
4) K.O – One time ft. Maggz, MaE & Masandi
Sixth single off the SA rap head’s album, Skhanda Republic, features fellow Cashtimers, with all artistes delivering at their best while tackling their topics head on. “One Time“ is a solid rap record straight out of Africa and has been making waves since the release of it’s video.
3) AKA – “Composure”
Super rap song with a very vibe-able hook, a diss track which stemmed from a lot of things and with very few name calling but mainly directed to his one-time friend, Cassper Nyovest and producer, Anatii who had collaborated with him on Saga. “Composure“ had the internet going crazy after it’s release and went on to be the number 1 song on the African Hip-Hop chart on iTunes.
2) Cassper Nyovest – “Dust 2 Dust”
1) Sarkodie – New Guy ft. Ace Hood
Often regarded as the king of African hip-hop after his almost back-to-back BET nominations, Sarkodie who has always had that fire, and crazy videos to back that up, tops our list with his track “New Guy“ which features American rapper and Bugatti hit maker, Ace Hood. Several covers floated on the net after his release and for a long time was the most talked about hip-hop record on the continent, unarguably one of the biggest hip-hop records of 2015.
