AKA Declares South Africa the Engine Room Of African Hip-Hop, MI Blatantly Disagrees

The battle for supremacy as to which is the home of Hip-Hop in Africa has been ongoing between Nigeria and South Africa for a while now. Many are of the opinion that Nigeria is where African Hip-Hop is being done the best while other large numbers of people also believe South Africa is where African Hip-Hop glows.

Still in the supremacy battle mood, South African rapper; AKA, just recently took to his Twitter page to proclaim that South Africa is where other African artistes look to for rap inspiration. He wrote; “because of @Tumemolekane I can proudly say that South Africa is the MECCA of African Hip Hop. There is no more room for debate. When it comes to this Hip Hop shit… South Africa IS THE TOP FUCKING LEVEL.”

See tweet below

However, this seemed to have irritated M.I as he replied AKA’s tweet, writing “hold my beer,” suggesting he was about to go into another heated battle with the white skinned South African rapper.

See below

Do you agree with AKA that South Africa does the best Hip-Hop in Africa? Share your thoughts below.

  4. Fuck Nigeria for buhari fuck corruption

  5. Naija all the way, south Africa no reach

  6. yea, they re better than naija currently, bcos naija hip pop is nt functioning any longer, naija artist re after money nt music

  7. Hip pop nobe African culture,is borrowed kind of music, we just want to be natural not emitting others people culture,

  8. Demonz is right
Oya check all the rappers wey follow AKA comot and those after
    Ycee,phyno,olamide
All of them are towing the “drake route”
M.i for follow but im sef know say street no go accept
AKA is right,SA hold the “hip hop” crown right now

  9. From the way of tinz now Nigeria is fall backward from hip hop, SA are really doing the real stuff called hip hop..

  10. For me S A is doing more when it comes to hip hop. Back here naija rappers is fusing with African pop and dance hall.

  11. The fact is hip hop is Nigeria ??, and hip hop will forever be Nigeria ??, its just that we don’t support hip hop down here, the likes of Mode9, Vector, Rugged, Jagz, Boogey, TR, sixfoot, Kraftmatiks, elbow room, freestyle, Godwon, Sinzu, only bit few to mention, would have in no way be compared to anyone from SA, but we killed hip hop, a MI was one of those who boldy tells the SA rappers that they are the best, so s shouldnt have a say in this.

  12. Hip hop is for sa right now

  13. S.A all the way currently
Nobody lives on past glory for long!
Naija used to be there, not anymore!

  14. Hiphop is dead in Naija cause the formula is missed to involve the populace. Falz and phyno have tapped into it a little. We can’t all be Spitting I’m the best or I’m the baddest only; it starves creativity and story telling.
Falz uses concepts that’s why he makes huts
Concepts that the people can relate to and consistency is what I feel is missed and most of all right now the best rapper in africa is Nasty c no offence to anyone until someone else better comes along, cause at his age his lyrics and delivery are world class/ legendary status. So for now yea SA have their voice, as usual is not that naija lacks talent they just aren’t being heard in the global scene

  15. We actually have some very wicked rappers in Nigeria. But of a reality, we are more interested in dancing it out than bothering ourselves with those lyrical torture coming from rap. Either ways, each party should enjoy what they do and also do what they do very well.
