Diary of A Man Utd Fan Round Up

Posted by 00-Babs on June 4, 2011 in Feature 2, Sport · 6 Comments

The 2010/2011 season has come to an end and what a season it was. The most competitive leagues (English, Spanish, German, French and Italian leagues) in Europe had new champions except for the Spanish La Liga where Barcelona retained their title, sorry Rangers’ fans your league isn’t tough enough. I liked that Dortmund have risen from the dead by winning the German Bundesliga, and Lille really upped the ante in the French Ligue 1 pushing  aside Marseille and Lyon to be number 1 in France. Milan finally won the Italian Serie A after a long while and in England Man Utd didn’t have to wait too long to snatch the title back from the hands of Chelsea. On a personal note it was a fun season for me. My team of the season is definitely Barcelona for a season long awesome display. Another treble for them this year; Spanish Super Cup, League and UEFA champions league. Despite losing the Copa del rey final to Madrid this season, they still got the better of their rivals with victories in the league and champions league. My worst team would however be Arsenal, please forget the beautiful football and face reality. How can you claim to be a top side and give up a 4 goal lead? Asides that the team could only boast of 4 league victories after that very game against Newcastle. If I remember correctly this was in February. 4 league victories in 3 months? SMHISM (Shaking My Head In Slow Motion).
Hate it or love it the buy of the season in Europe is definitely Chicharito of Man Utd, 20 goals in his debut season and he cost just £7m, yeah he didn’t do much against Barcelona but still yet he wasn’t bought for £50m and he didn’t have to wait for it to rain to get a goal for his new team.  Another awesome buy was Madrid’s Mesut Ozil poached from Werder Bremen. He reminds me of my 2nd best player of all time, Zinedine Zidane (My best is Romario) not Pele or Maradona. I didn’t watch Pele play at all and Maradona was past his best when I saw him. I will also hail the coup plots of both AC and Inter Milan with their acquisition of Antonio Cassano and Giampollo Pazzini respectively. Both men played for Sampdoria. Their departure obviously led to the relegation of Sampdoria to the lower tier of Italian football. Bolton fans would pray earnestly for Daniel Sturridge to make a permanent switch to the Reebok. I wonder why Paolo Maldini retired from football if Milan knew they would replace him with Taiye Taiwo who is almost as old or even older than the Italian great.
Wayne Rooney is the biggest conman in the world. He tabled a transfer request and made a u-turn days after, saying Sir Alex persuaded him to stay after telling him his plans for the future. Come on Rooney, we all know you just wanted more pay. His stay was vital to Man Utd’s record breaking league win. Arshavin is being crucified for not playing well.  Personally I think he was forced out of position all season. A thing Messer Wenger does when he wants to let a player go. Kanu and Wiltord suffered this too. The Irony of it all is that Arshavin played in all 53 games for Arsenal. Liverpool fans were chanting for the return of Kenny Dalgish, Arsenal fans take a cue, chant spend, spend, spend maybe Wenger will. Stan Kronke is planning to become  sole owner of the Gunners. I like this guy. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome  will have a shot at holding a crusade at the Emirates. This same Stan Kronke owns Denver Nuggets in the NBA. He predicted the Nuggets wouldn’t get to the conference finals some years back and decided to lease their court out to the WWE (A perfect Money making strategy). Alas Nuggets made the finals. Returning the money collected from the WWE became an issue.  Arsenal fans watch out.
Barcelona. What can I say about this team? They boast of over a 130 goals in all competitions. Messi accounts for 53 of these goals. They scored more goals away from home in the league than they did at home. They are the only side in Europe to score in all away league games they played.  They beat rivals Madrid 5-0, beat my beloved Man Utd in a 2nd champions league final in the space of 3years. The Red Devils were outclassed. Man Utd completed 301 passes as a team while the trio of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta made 305 complete passes. 153 of these passes were amongst themselves. Sad for United. The Red Devils didn’t even have a corner kick and their only shot on goal was Rooney’s goal. Arsenal you were still worse against the Catalans. No shot on target (Ok Busquets’ own goal).  Messi also equalled Van Nistelrooy’s 12 goals record in a single champions league season. Not forgetting Porto’s Falcao who scored 16 goals in the Europa league this season. There were goals aplenty this season in Europe. The English Premier League had the most goals.  A total of 1063 goals were scored in the English premier league this season breaking the old record of 1032 goals. Man Utd’s Dimitar Berbatov scored the most goals in a game (5) and Maxi Rodriquez of Liverpool scored the fastest goal 30 seconds after kick off. Robin ‘glass’  Van Persie managed to play more games this season than he has ever played in his Arsenal career combined and he made the most of it. He scored 18 goals between January and May.  A total of 894 goals were scored in the German Bundesliga, 1042 goals in the Spanish La liga, 859goals in the French League and 955goals in the Italian Serie A. The English league for me is still the most exciting.
One of my top players; Cristiano Ronaldo was the victim of severe taunting. They say he scores against lesser teams, I still wonder why those that are better have not scored twice as much. They say he doesn’t step up to bat in big games. Messi scored his 1st goal against Madrid after 7years. Ronaldo is human after all. Ronaldo scored 40 league goals and he is the official goal king of Europe this term. Mario Gomez was also hot for Bayern this term but neither him nor Messi could not catch up with Ronaldo. Messi and Ronaldo ended the season with 53 goals each in all competitions. However the European golden boot is won using  league goals as the only criteria.
In other news Michael Owen got a new deal! Much better for United than Milan’s deal with Inzaghi. Owen’s deal is pay as you go. Inzaghi gets paid if he plays or not. Mr Berbatov is contemplating staying? You earn 100k a week Mr Lazy. Think well.  Mr Gerard,  we know Joe Cole is talented but comparing him to Messi?  Get off the rum boss. You are not as good either. 1st Chicharito now Rooney? Madrid must think Man Utd is a training academy of some sort where they can come and cart away players . Anyway if the money is right Fergie please sell. Someone should please tell Abrahamovic to slow down. 7 managers in 8 years.  Smarten up sir. How do you  build cohesion in a family when you change their mummy every year.
I am still wondering why Sir Alex wants to waste money on a new keeper. We have Nemanja Vidic. For those who saw Man Utd Vs Arsenal at the Emirates, I am sure you would agree. When Walcott put in his best ever goal bound cross it took Vidic’s finger tip save to divert the ball over Van Persie’s head for a corner. De Gea, lean back we already have our man. Ashley Cole should be accredited with the shot of the year. How do you let a player bring in an air rifle to training? Anyway he used to be a Gunner. Sadly he left Arsenal with their only chance of shooting their way to silverware.  Rio Ferdinand won most of his games on twitter.  Mario Balotelli, one hell of a player. He had his car impounded  27 times. That’s 4 times more than the games he played for Man City this season. He was seen with £25,000 in cash and when asked what he was doing with so much cash his response was because I can.
It would be criminal of me not mention players like Yaya Toure (Man City), Alexis Sanchez (Udinese), Rafael Van Der Vaart (Totenham), Antonio Di Natale (Udinese), Edison Cavani(Napoli),  Andrea Cossu (Cagliari), Ezequiel Lavezzi (Napoli), Moussa Sow (Lille), Kevin Gameiro (Lorient), Neymar (Santos), Giuseppe Rossi (Villareal), Samuel Eto’o (Inter), Luka Modric (Totenham), Scott Parker (Westham), Charlie Adam (Blackpool) and rejuvenated Francesco Totti (Roma). These guys had a great season.
The season is over. Now is the time to know who has the money (In Don Jazzy’s voice). Man City over to you.
I hope it was worth your while folks…………….. Have a great weekend
