Don Jazzy
Don Jazzy is a Nigerian record producer, singer, songwriter, and music executive widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Afrobeats history. As the founder of Mavin Records and co-founder of the former Mo’Hits Records, he has played a major role in shaping modern Nigerian music and launching the careers of multiple global stars.
Born Michael Collins Ajereh on November 26, 1982, in Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria, Don Jazzy grew up in Lagos where he developed an early interest in music. He learned to play several instruments and later moved to the United Kingdom, where he honed his production skills.
Don Jazzy rose to prominence in the early 2000s as co-founder of Mo’Hits Records alongside D’banj. The label produced multiple hits including “Fall in Love,” “Why Me,” and “Oliver Twist,” establishing a new sound that helped define Afrobeats globally.
In 2011, Don Jazzy gained international recognition after collaborating with Kanye West on the GOOD Music project Cruel Summer. This milestone marked his entry into the global music scene.
After the Mo’Hits split in 2012, Don Jazzy founded Mavin Records, one of Africa’s most successful music labels. Under Mavin, he has nurtured top artists including Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Rema, Ayra Starr, and Ladipoe, contributing to numerous chart-topping releases.
Known for his signature tag “It’s Don Jazzy Again,” he has produced some of the biggest songs in Nigerian music history. His work spans decades and includes hits that have defined multiple generations of Afrobeats.
Don Jazzy continues to lead Mavin Records into global markets through partnerships and talent development. His influence extends beyond production into artist branding, digital strategy, and music business innovation.
