Blaqbonez is a Nigerian rapper, singer, and songwriter known for his witty lyrics, versatility, and bold self-branding as the “Best Rapper in Africa.” He has become one of the leading figures in Nigeria’s new-generation hip-hop scene, blending rap with Afrobeats and pop influences.
Born Emeka Akumefule on January 29, 1996, in Imo State, Nigeria, Blaqbonez grew up in Lagos where he developed an interest in music and rap culture. He studied Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), where he began gaining attention through campus rap battles.
Blaqbonez first gained recognition after participating in rap competitions and releasing underground projects. His early mixtapes and freestyles showcased his lyrical ability and helped him build a dedicated fanbase.
His breakthrough came after signing with Chocolate City Music, where he released the project Bad Boy Blaq (2018). He gained further attention with follow-up projects that highlighted his versatility and humor.
Blaqbonez achieved mainstream success with his album Sex Over Love (2021), which featured hit songs like “Bling” and “BBC (Remix).” He followed this with Young Preacher (2022), further solidifying his place in the industry.
In 2023, he released Emeka Must Shine, an album that blended rap with global sounds and included major collaborations. His ability to merge storytelling with catchy hooks has made him one of Nigeria’s most dynamic artists.
