Magixx
Magixx is a Nigerian singer and songwriter signed to Mavin Records, known for his smooth hybrid sound that fuses Afro-pop, R&B, trap, and dancehall into a distinctly modern and melodic style. One of the most promising voices to emerge from the Mavin stable, he has steadily grown from a viral social media presence into a critically acclaimed recording artist with a debut album to his name.
Born Alexander Adelabu on September 27, 1999, in Lagos State, Magixx grew up in Lagos where his passion for music took root from an early age. He began singing in his church choir at the age of 10 and developed an ear for music through his family’s diverse tastes — drawing influence from Fela Kuti, DMX, and later international pop stars. Despite the financial difficulties of paying for studio sessions while in university, he pushed on with his craft. He graduated with a degree in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos, and it was during his university years that he began releasing music professionally.
In 2019, Magixx released “Problem” — a blend of Afro-pop and Afro R&B that quickly caught the attention of major players in the Nigerian music industry, including Mayorkun, M.I Abaga, Zlatan Ibile, and crucially, Don Jazzy of Mavin Records. The song showcased his experimental, genre-fluid approach and signalled he was an artist worth watching. On September 23, 2021, Magixx signed a recording contract and music publishing deal with Mavin Records — and the following day, released his debut self-titled EP.
His debut EP Magixx, released on September 24, 2021, was a 5-track project that introduced him to a wider audience. The standout track “Love Don’t Cost a Dime” debuted at number 30 on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart and earned praise from critics across Nigeria. In February 2022, a reworked version — “Love Don’t Cost a Dime (Re-Up)” featuring labelmate Ayra Starr — pushed the song even further, peaking at number 8 on the TurnTable Top 50 chart, number 4 on TurnTable Airplay, and number 11 on the UK Official Afrobeats Chart. The Re-Up accumulated over 30 million Spotify streams and became one of the defining Nigerian love songs of 2022. That same year, Magixx earned two Headies nominations for Rookie of the Year and Best Male Vocal Performance.
In July 2022, he released his second EP ATOM — a confident 4-track project led by the single “Shaye.” The EP showcased his growth and versatility, blending romantic themes with upbeat production on tracks like “All Over,” “Weekenjoyment,” and “Forever.” He launched 2023 with the double-single “Colors (My Baby)” and “Loyal,” and later released “Maria” — a smooth Afro-pop single that further demonstrated his songwriting evolution. He also appeared on the Mavin All-Stars collaborative track “Won Da Mo” alongside Crayon, Bayanni, Ladipoe, Ayra Starr, and Johnny Drille, and featured on the viral “Overloading (OVERDOSE)” with Ladipoe and Boy Spyce.
In January 2025, Magixx announced his debut studio album I Dream In Color, which was released on February 28, 2025. The 13-track project explores themes of love, self-discovery, resilience, and African pride, blending Afro-pop and R&B with personal storytelling. The only guest feature on the album is Nigerian rapper Jeriq on the track “Vibration.” Upon release, I Dream In Color debuted at number one on the Apple Music Nigeria Albums Chart and peaked at number three on Boomplay Nigeria Top Albums — a remarkable achievement for his first full-length project.
Following the release of I Dream In Color, Magixx has continued to promote the album with singles including “With You” and “Okay,” both released via tooXclusive. He remains one of the most consistent and exciting acts on the Mavin Records roster, with each project showing measurable growth in artistry and audience reach.
Magixx represents the new wave of Mavin Records artistry — genre-fluid, emotionally intelligent, and commercially savvy. From struggling to fund studio sessions in university to debuting at number one on the Apple Music Nigeria Albums Chart, his story is one of persistence and creative conviction. With a debut album that speaks to personal truth and universal themes, Magixx is firmly on a path toward becoming one of Afrobeats’ defining voices of his generation.
