Diary of A ManUtd Fan

Game: Arsenal Vs Manchester United
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Competition : League Match

Hey peeps, I do hope all is well. Last week was awesome for me especially so because Man Utd  beat Schalke FC away from home in the 1st leg of the champions league semifinal game. Back home United have Chelsea breathing down their neck after they controversially beat Spurs 2-1 yesterday (Later dem go call Man U PDP). United face the tough task of beating Arsenal. A win will help keep Chelsea at bay. This match is difficult because it’s an away tie. However the Red Devils have what it takes to beat the Gunners and looking at the last 10 games between both sides, United have been the better side. With 8 victories, 1 draw and a loss. I hoped for a United victory.

With all due respect to Arsenal win or lose I do not see them as a great side. Before you swallow me up I have pretty decent reasons. A major reason is that they tend to falter when it matters most and that is not in my opoinion the characteristics of a great football team. No doubt they play beautiful football, this can be likened to saying a child is not brilliant but he has got a nice handwriting (na beautiful football we go chop?).  Anyways to those of you ranting that the Gunners have not won anything in 6 years, I ask is the Emirates cup not a trophy? The only surviving member of the “Invisible” side of 2004 is Gael Clichy at the moment he is the only member of the Arsenal squad with a league medal. To be honest I am not so confident of a victory but my I’m certain United will give it all it takes.

Arsenal start  without their skipper Fabregas, they do however put up a very stong side with Szczesny, Sagna, Koscielny, Djorou, Clichy, Song, Wilshere, Ramsey, Nasri, Van Persie and Walcott making the 1st XI. United would be without Giggs (out with flu) and Valencia starts on the bench. Van Der Saar, Fabio, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Carrick, Nani, Anderson, Park, Rooney and Chicharito were listed for this tie. Nani has always been the guy to watch in recent games against Arsenal and I am hoping he won’t disappoint.

The 1st half started with Arsenal dominating, what am I saying? The 1st 10mins started  with Arsenal tearing apart my beloved team. I think my players left their hearts in the dressing room. At some point we got into the game but left almost as soon as we made our appearance. Arsenal set the pace of the game and if possessions were goal counts, they should have been up by at least 15 goals. Wilshere, Sagna and Van Persie came close to giving Arsenal the lead. In what would be the 1st real talking point of the match, Arsenal were denied a penalty even when video evidence showed Vidic handled the ball in United’s box. He did it to keep out Wilshere’s goal bound shot and from where I watched it seemed like he did it on purpose. Thank God the Referre didn’t see this, I’m certain he would have been dismissed. As for the Assistant Referre d guy was probably day dreaming. United was lucky to escape unscathed. Truth be told Arsenal totally dominated the 1st half and on a personal note it was a half I was willing to forget. The 1st half ended 0-0 and leaving the Emirates with even a point had started looking damn near impossible. Anyways this is United and the Premier league is ours to lose.

The 2nd half started brightly for United though we had no clear chance on goal. Possession was still mostly Arsenal. To kickstart things Sir Alex brought in Valencia for Anderson. Our horrific showing would come back to haunt us as Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey finally crowned Arsenal’s doggedness with a well placed finish. It was a brilliant pass from Van Persie. I was all kinds of mad. Frankly I knew it would be difficult to pull one back with the way Arsenal was playing. Fergie not one to go down without fight sent in more attacking options. Berbatov and Micheal Owen came on for Chicharito and Carrick. Needless to say asides from a Penalty shout from Owen (it was a penalty but I won’t complain too much seeing as we escaped a Vida booking) both Substitutes didn’t make much impact. Arsenal could have scored a few more, they had better chances. Man Utd tried to get that elusive equaliser but it wasn’t forthcoming. The Game ended 1-0 in Arsenal’s favour and they truly deserved it.

Man of the match for me was Jack Wilshere and I will also give special mentions to Van Persie and goal scorer Aaron Ramsey. It was a good display from a team I still don’t respect.

So here we go my excuses for this defeat; I believe my team is exhausted, physically it isn’t easy to play 60 games every season and emotionally too, God knows we’ve been through plenty this season. We also missed Ryan Giggs, but someone needs to step up, because Giggsy will not wear a United shirt all his life. Like I said earlier Man Utd are still in the driving seat and it’s still our title to lose. I am sure we will wrap up the league in due time. The main reason for the loss however was we wanted to give the London sides  a sniff of the title (just a sniff) we are United we always put on a show. At the end of the season best believe the title is going back to Old Trafford. As Fergie said there would be twist and turns in the title run in and it might just go down to the wire. United have to move on from this defeat and get the job done against Schalke on Wednesday night, though I would want some key players rested for the tie. We have Chelsea to play in 7days time.

Man Utd till my dying day, till I am old and grey.
