Joey Akan, a renowned Nigerian journalist, recently called out Wizkid for his remarks directed at Davido’s work.
The conflict began when Davido announced his first single for 2024, expressing confidence that it would be a hit. Wizkid, in response, took to his X page with the message, “P***y boys dropping mid again, una don tire! Make una go rest small!” Though Wizkid didn’t directly name Davido, many fans saw it as a subtle jab at Davido’s work.
One of Davido’s fans reacted, accusing Wizkid of trying to ride on Davido’s work to gain attention. The fan wrote:
“So if you no beef @davido your song won’t sell??” Wizkid quickly replied, saying: “I don’t beef wack nig*as! We all know he’s wack! No talent!”
In his post on X, Joey Akan expressed frustration over the ongoing conflict, labeling it as ‘repeated waves of secondhand embarrassment’ and noting that nothing has changed since 1992. Joey also criticized Wizkid’s remarks about Davido’s work, pointing out that the Essence singer has not connected with fans for the past two years.
Joey wrote, “Wizkid dragging Davido doesn’t hit as he’s led to believe by drama-thirsty NPC FCs. It falls flat on its face, more repugnant than entertaining or endearing. Once again, the moment he descended the Mt Olympus of Made in Lagos, and started engaging with mortals again. All he’s succeeded in showing us is a mass realization that the gods are driven by the same things that drive mortals. Ego. Pettiness. Malice?”
He continued, criticizing the lack of progress in Wizkid’s career, saying:
“You can’t be dragging your colleague’s art when yours has lacked connectivity for two years. People dey wait for music, you dey feed us beef. Reading the crowd wrongly. Drop for us.”
Meanwhile, Davido has addressed comments made by Wizkid, who had thrown shade at him regarding his decision to release a new song at the same time as the highly anticipated launch of Wizkid’s own album, Morayo.
Wizkid took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his disapproval, dismissing Davido’s new release as subpar and mockingly referring to him as “Fogido” while calling Davido’s fanbase “30 Bingos” instead of the popular “30BG.”
This sparked reactions from Davido’s supporters, with one fan accusing Wizkid of using Davido’s name to promote his own album. Wizkid responded by stating he had no need to use Davido for publicity, once again claiming that Davido lacks talent.
In the midst of this online feud, Davido, known for his hit song Unavailable, chose not to engage in the back-and-forth. Instead, he focused on his upcoming collaboration with PUMA, sharing the exciting news on his verified X account.
Davido tweeted: “Touchdown NYC!! Excited about tonight @puma X Davido New collection Unveiling! ????,” showcasing his focus on success and growth, and subtly reminding everyone of his winning partnership with PUMA, a brand that Wizkid once represented as an ambassador.
