The Headies is one of the most controversial award ceremonies in the Nigerian music industry. The prestigious award organized by the popular Hip TV channel recently released a full nominees list for her 12th edition which will take place at the Eko Convention Center on the 5th of May 2018.
As expected, all eyes have focused keenly on the Next Rated award category, with many wondering who will emerge as the winner of the highly coveted title.
The nominees for the Next Rated category include; British-born Nigerian producer and recording artiste, Maleek Berry, DMW flagship act, Mayorkun, Choc City’s Dice Ailes, Mavin Records alternative producer-artiste, Johnny Drille and Eastern rap sensation, Zoro.
Maleek Berry was a shock winner at the Soundcity MVP Award Festival having won in the Best New Artist category, defeating Mayorkun, Dice Ailes and Small Doctor.
With all the attention on Maleek Berry and Mayorkun, the question strumming on the lips of everyone now is; who will win this year’s Next Rated award?

Mayorkun is good and he has achieved alot within the short period he came into the game, the davido influence and his team moved his budding talent to the next level and the hits he gave us can’t be ignored, in contrast to maleek berry who worked his way up to where he is today, started has a producer then dropping adlibs on tracks of artist like wiz, burna, Runtown etc bfor Givin us a full track and having the fan base he’s got today ND has also found a way to warm himself into the heart of Nigerians in diaspora especially the UK. I can say maleek is a force to reckon with when it comes to this music things, I mean he was able to switch or lemme say play the role of an artist and a producer successfully, same venture that led to the end of many producer in the spotlight, a perilous path where only the brave and strong hearted will dare take because of the repercussions that might follow, cos the last thing music fans here wanna see is see u switch roles, but if u goin do that, u better be really good at it and convince the crowd or ull be left in a limbo, this maleek was able to pull off effortlessly.
All that being said, maleek is the man for the award, infact I think he’s already bigger than the next rated, buh that’s just part of the process, we can’t ignore mayorkuns talent and the work he’s been putting in and the major impact DMW has in his growth in contrast to berry a one man army being the jacks of all trade he is, I juts think he, mayorkun doesn’t do it for me, number of hits, talent, hardwork, versatility and popularity in and out of naija, berry does it for me.. He shld win
