Two of the Industry’s rappers, Olamide and Phyno who have it locked down and are reigning supreme in the indigenous category have blazed the trail by achieving a breaking feat in the history of Nigerian music. Yesterday, they released the first ever collaborative rap album from these shores in collaboration with mobile telecommunications giant, Etisalat on their Cloud 9 Music platform.
It is no news that Olamide and Phyno are two acts that not only found but constantly enjoy a rap chemistry which they have displayed in times past on several records including Dope Money, Aju, In My Circle, Local Rappers and the award winning number, Ghost Mode. So it’s a no-brainer when they thought to merge their giftings in a synergy that has been titled 2 Kings. The album simply expresses both players as excellencies. Cypher leads the tracklist on the LP and has both parties taking turns to drop a couple o’ hot flows on the cypher-styled bars. 2 Kings features production from producers including Pheelz, Major Bangz, Young John and B.Banks who have all been responsible for series of hits from both rappers. In similar vein, there are vocal features from Lil Kesh on Ladi (representing the YBNL pack) and Storm Rex (for Penthauz). Prior to the official release, Olamide had premiered Confam Ni featuring Starboy Wizkid where they served an unusual take as against expectations of an uptempo, loud and high streets jam. Likewise Phyno, whose most recent single Une sampled on ragga/dance hall elements are both housed amongst other new tracks on the album.
Although it’s not Halloween’s, I mean this is defo not October but Olamide and Phyno planned more than just trick or treating for us. Undoubtedly!
