The Atlanta-Nigerian born artiste set the record as the first African afrobeat artiste to be a golden spike hitter. He was invited by the beloved people of Atlanta to kickstart the Atlanta United FC (atlutd) MLS match against Columbus FC at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Georgia, thereby earning the title of a golden spike hitter.
Davido shared clips from the exciting moment and how the crowd went wild when he stepped on the podium to hit the spike.
Over the years, in the history of American sports, American celebrities were assigned the role of hitting the golden spike but never a Nigerian musician has been bestowed the honour except for Davido. American rapper, Kanye West was also in attendance of the Atlanta United FC vs Columbus Crew football match.
Kanye West used this same Mercedes-Benz Stadium with 70k capacity for his Donda album listening party before the Atlanta United FC opening match for the new MLS season.
