Ayra Starr is one of the brightest stars of the new Afrobeats generation. Known for her bold confidence, soulful vocals, and genre-blending sound, she has quickly become a global force in African pop music. Fusing Afrobeats, R&B, and pop influences, Ayra Starr represents a fearless and youthful voice shaping the future of the industry.
Born Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe on June 14, 2002, in Cotonou, Benin Republic, Ayra Starr grew up in a music-loving family that encouraged her creativity. Her early exposure to different sounds and cultures helped shape her dynamic musical style.
She studied International Relations and Political Science at Les Cours Sonou University, balancing academics while building her passion for music.
Ayra Starr began by posting song covers on social media, where her voice caught the attention of Don Jazzy. In 2020, she signed with Mavin Records, officially launching her professional career.
Her self-titled EP Ayra Starr (2021) introduced her to the mainstream, with “Away” becoming a breakout hit. Later that year, she released her debut album 19 & Dangerous, featuring fan favorites like “Bloody Samaritan,” which made her the first solo female Nigerian artist to top the TurnTable Top 100.
In 2024, she released her sophomore album The Year I Turned 21, showcasing growth, vulnerability, and international collaborations. The album featured artists like Asake, Anitta, Coco Jones, Giveon, and Rauw Alejandro. Her hit single “Santa” further boosted her global streaming numbers, making her one of the most streamed African female artists worldwide.
She also expanded her global presence by joining Chris Brown’s 11:11 Tour as an opening act, solidifying her international appeal.
