Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Damini Ogulu better known as Burna Boy has replied those criticising him over his silence ad non-participation in the 2023 general elections.
He said that he does not have a candidate in the election and he has never actively supported or campaigned for anyone in his life.
Burna Boy said the reason is because he does not want to make people vote a particular candidate and end up being attacked if the person wins and fails to deliver.
The self-acclaimed African Giant made this known via his social media page and noted that he wishes that the best candidate wins.
He wrote; “I dunno why it`s such a big deal to some Nigerians that I`ve not been vocal about the elections. Personally I don`t have a candidate that I believe in. I`ve never supported any political party or candidate in my life beacause I don`t want to make you vote and then blame me when the person fucks up as usual. That being said, I hope all votes count and the best man wins.”
He also shared screenshots of his chat with some fans who said the reason people expected him to be vocal is because he is someone they look up to.
The person wrote; “They reason are there African Giant. We all looked up to. So don`t try to justify your reason of not being vocal in this election.”
But Burna responded; “If it`s who will show you who to vote for ur looking for, please look up to someone else.
Make una look up to another person abeg.”
Another asked him in the DM: Then why you dy sing about the country.
In response Burna Boy said he will stop singing about Nigeria.
“I go dey sing about china now. No para.”
