Canadian singer Celine Dion revealed the difficulties she’s facing due to her Stiff-Person syndrome diagnosis in a recent interview. Describing the condition’s impact on her voice, Dion told “Today” host Hoda Kotb that it felt like someone was choking her. The syndrome also affects her vocal range, making it challenging to sing. Dion demonstrated this by speaking in a higher-pitched voice during the interview.
Dion’s struggles began with throat tightness, but the condition progressed to debilitating muscle cramps in her hands and feet, leaving her temporarily unable to move them. In a severe episode, the spasms even caused broken ribs. Since receiving the diagnosis in 2022, Dion has had to cancel her world tour. Her sister has spoken about the autoimmune disorder sometimes leaving her completely immobile.
Despite these challenges, Dion is slowly returning to public life. She has recently attended NHL games and even presented an award at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
