Seun Kuti expressed his admiration for Wizkid in a new interview. Kuti, who is set to release a new song with Damian Marley, described Wizkid as one of the few Nigerian artists he admires, further stating that they might not respect each other, but there is mutual admiration.
The Grammy-nominated musician also supported Wizkid’s claims about not being an Afrobeats artiste. Kuti stated that Nigerians shouldn’t box artists or tell them the kind of music to create, agreeing that Wizkid’s opinion wasn’t wrong.
During the interview, Kuti also stated that Nigeria doesn’t have a music industry. According to the musician, there is a “thriving music business” in Nigeria. He went on to outline the prerequisites for building a music industry. He said, “Industry means ownership. We don’t own any music platform and we don’t dictate the terms our music is sold on”.
“Wizkid is one of the guys I admire the most, he was right to say Nigerians shouldn’t box him to just Afrobeats, he can spread his wings and make different sounds”
