Nigerian musician Young Jonn has admitted that convincing himself that he could make the shift from producer to full-blown performer was the most difficult part of the process. In a recent interview with media personality Isi Ijewere for her Backstage Banter trivia YouTube feature, the musician was asked a series of questions about his performance in Canada.
Isi asked,Β βWhat has been the hardest part of transitioning from a producer to a full-blown performing artiste?β
After some thought Young Jonn replied,Β βThe hardest part was self-conviction, actually convincing myself that I could do it.Β That was the hardest part, where I was on stage asking myself if I really wanted to do this or not. It was really hard for me to convince myself that I got this.β
Next, Isi asked the singer,Β βWhen was the last time you cried?β to which he responded, βThe last time I cried was when I lost my mum. I donβt think I have cried since then.β
She also asked,Β βAre you lying to yourself about anything?β and the singer acknowledged that people often lie to themselves.
In his words,Β βI think everyone lies to themselves about one thing or the other just to make themselves feel better.β
βWhat is your biggest ick?β Isi asked.
βI donβt like people who are not true to themselves. I detest them.β He continued, βLet me not say βdetestβ because itβs probably not that serious. I feel like when you are true to yourself, thatβs when you can be true to anybody else but if youβre not true to yourself, youβre living a lie.β
