Nigerian musician, Ajibola Danladi, also known as Danny Young, asserts that social media has effectively ended the oppression within the Nigerian music industry.

The singer highlighted that social media has reduced the influence of gatekeepers over creatives in the Nigerian music industry during his latest podcast. Renowned Nigerian artist Ajibola Danladi, known as Danny Young, has asserted that the rise of social media has effectively eradicated oppression within the Nigerian music industry. He made this remark while reflecting on an incident where a prominent individual intentionally excluded him from an award nomination.
In his recent podcast, Danny Young emphasized that social media has significantly diminished the control that industry gatekeepers once had over creative individuals in the Nigerian music industry.
“The good thing is that social media came to expose many of them because it gave people the opportunity to express themselves. That is what led to the emergence of what we call Gen Z. My definition of Gen Z is freedom of speech, freedom of rights, and freedom of expression,” Danny Young explained.
Meanwhile, Danny Young claimed that he is not afraid to relaunch his career after taking a significant break to study the evolving music scene. The artist, known for his perfectionism and self-assurance, stated that fear is the one thing that can transform a person into a loser.
“I am a perfectionist, and I believe in myself and the importance of evaluation and research,” Danny Young reveals. “Once I know what I want to do, I strike immediately and leave the rest to God.”
Reflecting on his time away, Danny Young noted that it allowed him to observe shifts and trends in the Nigerian music industry, ensuring that his return would be impactful. He dismissed the notion that time away would jeopardize his fame, pointing out that every generation sees the rise and fall of different artists.
“Artistes come and go in every generation,” he continued. “But I knew that with the right preparation and a clear vision, I could make a strong comeback. Fear was never an option for me.”
