Movie Star

The opening track, Movie Star, sets the tone for Onorato EP with Ajebo Hustlers’ signature blend of smooth flows, infectious hooks, and a vibrant beat. The song explores themes of ambition, success, and the allure of a high-flying lifestyle, making it both aspirational and deeply engaging.

With its mix of R&B rhythms and a pop-infused bounce, Movie Star stands out as the most heartfelt track on the project. Piego delivers an impassioned performance, pouring his emotions into the melody while Knowledge’s rap verses keep it grounded. His flows, rich with pidgin and streetwise charisma, stamp the unmistakable Ajebo Hustlers imprint on the track.

Ave Maria ft. Victony

Known for their signature blend of Afrobeats, highlife, and street-inspired sounds, Ajebo Hustlers continue to push creative boundaries, and Ave Maria is no exception.

The track seamlessly weaves Ajebo Hustlers’ vivid storytelling with Victony’s soulful, melodic touch, resulting in a record that brims with emotion and energy. Moreover, Semzi helms the production, crafting a soulful Afro fusion laced with highlife undertones – perfectly suited for Victony’s rich vocal texture.

Despite the track’s atmospheric production and Victony’s stirring presence, Ajebo Hustlers hold their own effortlessly. Piego shines with a standout bridge, ensuring the duo’s imprint remains strong. Ave Maria is a beautifully balanced collaboration, blending introspection with an irresistible groove, making it a standout addition to their discography.

Velvet

Ajebo Hustlers deliver yet another standout track with Velvet, the third offering from their Onorato EP. Blending Afrobeats, highlife, and Lo-fi elements, the song captivates with its rich production, pulsing bassline, and warm piano notes. Lyrically, it explores themes of love, ambition, and luxury, with Piego openly embracing his promiscuous side while Knowledge reflects on a past romance. Though a slower burn compared to other tracks on the EP, Velvet thrives on its emotional depth and dynamic energy, making it a compelling addition to the project.

Yan Yan Po ft. Timaya

Ajebo Hustlers team up with Afrobeats legend Timaya on Yan Yan Po, a lively addition to their Onorato EP. Infused with their signature blend of Afrobeats, street-hop, and highlife, the track has all the makings of an energetic anthem. Timaya’s presence brings his signature swag and groove, making for an exciting collaboration.

However, despite the strong concept and decent verses, Yan Yan Po falls short of its full potential. While not a bad song, its hook and overall execution lack the memorability expected from such a high-profile link-up.

Concluding Remarks

Ajebo Hustlers continue their impressive streak of consistent releases, and with Onorato, they seem to be expanding their scope while staying true to their distinct sound – a feat few artists successfully achieve. This EP sees them stepping out of their comfort zone, experimenting with broader sonic elements while maintaining the authenticity that sets them apart.

Across four tracks, Onorato EP reaffirms their place as one of Nigeria’s most dynamic duos. From the heartfelt Movie Star to the smooth bounce of Velvet, the soulful Ave Maria, and the high-energy Yan Yan Po, the project showcases their versatility and evolution. While some moments shine brighter than others, Onorato EP remains a solid, well-crafted body of work that cements Ajebo Hustlers’ ability to blend storytelling with infectious melodies, pushing the Afrobeats sound forward.
