The 54th NAACP Image Awards was one to be remembered as music royalty Beyoncé, Tems and Wizkid, all eminent Nigerian musicians, took home awards at the event held virtually.
Beyoncé was bestowed with her 25th NAACP Image award for best album for her project ”˜Renaissance`, an album that has been widely praised for its powerful lyrics, revolutionary production and her unique sound.
Her collection of songs conveys an emotional journey with topics such as love, resilience and self-empowerment. Her project was received with incredible enthusiasm from fans, and critics alike, cementing her legacy as an artist of tremendous influence.
Wizkid`s hard work, determination and creativity were honoured when he was presented with a NAACP Image award for best contemporary collaboration for his contributions to Chris Brown’s ‘Call Me Everyday’.
Thanks to Wizkid`s magic, this romantic single topped the international charts, signifying the large cultural impact of Nigerian music on the global stage.
Tems, another talented Nigerian musician, also had her skills and accomplishments rewarded as she scooped the NAACP Image award for best outstanding international song for her performance on ‘Lift Me Up’ off ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.
Through this impressive feat, she has continued to establish herself as one of the most important female musicians in the Nigerian music industry.
