Meanwhile, the criminal trial of Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, was delayed once again at a Federal High Court in Lagos. The trial was postponed because of a pending application for fiat awaiting approval from the Chief Judge of the court.
The prosecutor, Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari, informed Justice Isaac Dipeolu about the application, which would allow the former judge to continue presiding over Naira Marley’s trial. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had initially charged Naira Marley with cybercrime offenses on May 14, 2019. The charges alleged that he conspired to use different Access Bank ATM cards to defraud victims and possessed counterfeit credit cards with the intent to commit fraud.
The court granted Naira Marley bail, and although the trial had commenced, the case was delayed due to the transfer of the former judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo. The trial has now been adjourned until May 30, 2024, for a further report.
