A formal investigation into Tito Jackson’s Death is still ongoing. On Monday morning, Tito’s sons—Taj, 51, Taryll, 49, and TJ, 46—shared the news of their father’s passing through a joint statement on their band 3T’s Instagram account.
New Mexico police have reported that Tito Jackson suffered a medical emergency while driving before his death on Sunday, September 15. According to the Daily Mail, on Monday, September 16, police revealed that a passerby noticed Tito Jackson in distress around 6 p.m. as he was traveling from New Mexico to Oklahoma, where he had recently relocated. The passerby flagged down authorities near the American Heritage Plaza shopping center, where Jackson had apparently stopped.
The founding member of the Jackson 5 was transported to the hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead a few hours later. Tito Jackson’s Death was confirmed at the age of 70. Steve Manning, Jackson’s former manager, suggested that a heart attack might have been the cause while Jackson was making the cross-state journey. However, an autopsy has not yet been conducted, and the official cause of Tito Jackson’s Death remains undetermined.
“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson is no longer with us,” they wrote. “We are shocked, saddened, and heartbroken.”
The brothers described their father as an “incredible man” who deeply cared about others and their well-being. They added, “Some of you may know him as Tito Jackson from the legendary Jackson 5, some may know him as ‘Coach Tito’ or some know him as ‘Poppa T.’” They concluded their message by requesting that fans honor their father’s memory by leading with love, just as he always did.
Tito Jackson gained fame as a teenager with his brothers—Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael Jackson—when they rose to stardom with their Motown hits. Managed by their father, Joe Jackson, who passed away in 2018, the iconic Jackson 5 were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and were nominated for three Grammys.
