Nigerian rap star, Aboriomoh Femi Raymond, popularly known as Dremo, grabbed headlines recently when he announced that he was in a relationship with a sugar mummy. The former DMW signee took to his social media page and gushed over her for sending him money without him asking.
Dremo shared a screenshot of the N500,000 alert he received out of the blue, captioning it “My sugar mummy sent money for no reason.” This announcement, though unexpected, is part of a larger trend among Nigerian celebrities, who are increasingly embracing the idea of having a sugar mummy to supplement their incomes.
A sugar mummy is a wealthy older woman who provides financial support to a younger partner in exchange for companionship, access to exclusive events and other privileges. It is not uncommon for Nigerian celebrities to be involved in such arrangements, as they often need additional income to maintain their lifestyles.
Dremo`s announcement has sparked a lot of debate in Nigeria, with some people praising him for his bravery in coming out and others criticizing him for glorifying a practice that is widely seen as exploitative.
However, Dremo is not the only celebrity to have an arrangement of this kind. Many other Nigerian celebrities, such as actors and musicians, have been reported to have similar arrangements with wealthy benefactors.
