Reverend Benjamin Dube Bids Farewell to Spirit of Praise, Embarks on New Spiritual Journey
Gospel music legend Reverend Benjamin Dube has officially announced his departure from the iconic gospel ensemble, Spirit of Praise, marking the end of a powerful era in South African gospel history.
The announcement, delivered through an official statement on Monday, signaled the conclusion of what Reverend Dube described as “one of the most meaningful chapters” of his illustrious career.
Widely regarded as the spiritual backbone of Spirit of Praise, Benjamin Dube’s presence in the collective since its inception in 2008 has been monumental. From the group’s debut recording at the Pretoria State Theatre to its current status as a gospel powerhouse, his contributions – both musically and ministerially – have been transformative.
“This decision was not easy,” Dube admitted. “Through this platform, countless lives have been touched, worship has been elevated, and the message of Christ has reached multitudes both locally and globally.”
His emotionally charged performances of timeless songs like Lonile iBandla and the Elshadai Medley have not only become beloved staples in the gospel genre but also helped define the collective’s unique spiritual and musical identity. Over the years, Spirit of Praise has released ten volumes of music, with Dube’s voice and vision at the heart of the group’s enduring success.
Now, after more than a decade of serving as a central figure in the group, Reverend Dube is stepping away to pursue what he calls “a divine calling” placed on his life—a new phase centered on personal ministry, mentorship, and global outreach.
According to his personal assistant and brand manager, Hloni Mohlala, Dube is entering a season of intentional service. “Rev Dube is ready to pour into the vision God has placed on his heart,” Mohlala shared. “He is shifting his focus to mentoring the next generation of gospel artists and expanding his personal ministry initiatives.”
Despite his departure, the parting is characterized by deep mutual respect and heartfelt gratitude. In his statement, Dube extended special thanks to Spirit Music Group and the group’s co-founders, Aubrey Peacock and Matthew Nkabinde, for their unwavering partnership and shared commitment to ministry through music.
“Rev Dube departs with nothing but love, honour, and profound appreciation in his heart,” the statement concluded, affirming that while his chapter with Spirit of Praise may be closing, his spiritual mission is only just beginning.
As he turns the page to focus on broader ministry endeavors, Reverend Dube’s legacy with Spirit of Praise remains etched in the hearts of millions – a testament to his anointed voice, unshakable faith, and lifelong dedication to spreading the Gospel through music.
