Fireboy DML
Fireboy DML is one of Nigeria’s defining voices of the modern Afrobeats era, known for his melodic “Afro-Life” blend of Afropop and R&B. Signed to YBNL Nation and distributed internationally via EMPIRE, he rose quickly with emotionally direct songwriting, smooth vocals, and crossover-ready production.
Born Adedamola Oyinlola Adefolahan on February 5, 1996, Fireboy grew up in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He studied at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), where his music gained momentum before his YBNL breakthrough.
He broke out with “Jealous,” which became one of the most successful Nigerian pop records of its time and helped power his debut album Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps (2019).
Fireboy’s second album Apollo (2020) expanded his sound and ambition, while the global success of “Peru” accelerated his international reach. His third album Playboy (2022) delivered more chart-driven Afropop and major collaborations.
In 2024, he released his fourth studio album adedamola, leaning into broader musical textures and notable features. In 2025, he and Pheelz released a joint EP, Peace by Piece, continuing his run of high-profile projects and strong streaming performance.
Fireboy DML is widely credited as a core voice of Afrobeats’ melodic wave—balancing heartfelt writing with pop accessibility—while helping push YBNL’s sound into a global-facing era.
