Young Jonn
Young Jonn is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer who successfully transitioned from being one of Afrobeats’ most sought-after producers to a chart-topping artist. Widely known for crafting hit records for top Nigerian acts, he has built a second career as a vocalist with infectious melodies and contemporary Afropop sounds.
Born John Saviours Udomboso on February 16, 1995, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, Young Jonn developed an early passion for music production. He began experimenting with beats as a teenager and later honed his skills while studying at the University of Ibadan.
Young Jonn rose to prominence in the mid-2010s as an in-house producer for YBNL Nation. He became widely recognized for producing a string of hit songs for Olamide, including tracks from the critically acclaimed album Street OT (2014). His signature tag “It’s Young Jonn, the wicked producer” became synonymous with hit records.
Throughout the late 2010s, Young Jonn solidified his reputation as one of Nigeria’s top producers, working with major artists across the industry. His production credits span multiple chart-topping songs, contributing significantly to the evolution of modern Afrobeats.
In 2021, Young Jonn signed with Chocolate City Music and began his transition into a full-fledged recording artist. He gained mainstream attention with the release of his debut EP Love Is Not Enough (2022), which featured the hit single “Dada.”
Young Jonn continued his momentum with follow-up projects and singles, including “Xtra Cool” (2022), which became a major street anthem. In 2023, he released Love Is Not Enough Vol. 2, featuring popular tracks like “Currency” (feat. Olamide) and “Aquafina.” His ability to blend catchy hooks with his production expertise has made him one of Afropop’s fastest-rising stars.
Young Jonn continues to release new music while balancing his dual role as both artist and producer. He has expanded his reach through collaborations with leading African artists and continues to perform at major shows and festivals.
Young Jonn stands out as one of the few Nigerian musicians to successfully transition from elite producer to mainstream artist. His influence on Afrobeats—both behind the scenes and on the charts—cements his place as a key figure in the genre’s modern evolution.
