It has been an eventful year for both Afrobeats and Dwizztheman as the Nigerian artiste wraps up what has been an incredible run with his first body of work since signing onto his new label, Yellow Lion Music Record Label (YLM) in 2022. Two to tango the two-track Extended Play (EP) project released independently marked the beginning of this incredible run with exciting songs released to wet the fan’s appetite for what was to come.
On the 9th of August 2022, βΛFriendzone` was released by βΛJayblu Ovie`, with a verse from βΛDwizztheman` to great acclaim. The success of the record ignited a series of events that would see new relationships created and Dwizztheman was unveiled as the first artist signed to Yellow Lion Music Record Label (YLM).
Half Wiz, Half Man is a collection of delicately curated songs with production credits from the incredibly talented Timbun and a guest feature from Otilo crooner, βΛTwish Alaga`. Despite being his debut project under YLM, Dwizztheman brings a veteran’s touch to his sound by infusing an original style and language unique to his background and community. Inspired by the Starboy of Afrobeats, Wizkid, Dwizztheman hopes to follow in the footsteps of his biggest influence and carve a place for himself in the Nigerian music industry.
Unlike his previous songs with a familiar love theme, Dwizztheman explores new territories and sounds with this project comfortably delving into the amapiano genre on the song Jiggy and taking on his doubters on the song Ranju which also features Twish Alaga. I wanted to create something that showed the two sides of me. I have been called a Wiz but I’m also just a man and I may not be perfect all the time. I think this project helps capture a frame of my mind and paints a clear picture of everything that makes me Dwizzthemanβ.
The project is dedicated to his fans and family for their unwavering support but special gratitude goes to his long-term friend, Timbun.
I guess what makes this project special to me was the process and effort that went into it. I linked up with my day-one friend and producer, Timbun and we got to work. We then found a label that believed in the music and was ready to take a chance on me and I have to say, it has been a surreal year.
The single off the EP, Jiggy was released on the 25th of November and has since been a club regular and a fan favourite.
Half Wiz, Half Man promises to leave the same impact.
