Making music was not the Nigerian born artist’s first career choice. “I never really planned to be an artist. I wanted to go through school and become a certified farmer but music gradually grew a strong root in my life. I fell in love with every piece of it.” Before venturing into full-time music, Jesse Roar, born Otabor Ovie Glory lived a simple life full of dreams and the usual young boy aspirations. His parents are a combo of the Benin Tribe in Edo state and the Urhobo tribe of Delta State, two of the most storied tribes in Nigeria with a Rich history of music and entertainment. Growing up, Jesse Roar always wanted to be a farmer, influenced by the traditional occupation of his native Urhobo where he grew up. Growing up, he had a fondness for Universal music, life artworks and mysticism. It was there he started to develop a taste for different genres of music and relating it with life as an art to be explored.
“I’m passionate about life as a form of Art’s expression. When I say my music is an Art for Life, it is because I see it as one. As a sound that is painted with words from both conscious and mindful state of life, awareness, understanding, misunderstanding, question and more. Music is my way of expressing art in its purest form and it is a good thing that Afro-beats now has a global audience with the sound taking over the world and helping to spread our message – our art.”
“I volunteer to make the Earth a better place in every 1% I can. I am a lover of life and Earth’s beauty. Farming helped me build a connection with the Earth and Nature. I have always had dreams. Not limited to farming or singing. I wanted to achieve and grow. I just wanted to try everything and be successful. Hopefully, my music goes even farther than my dreams and helps inspire people.”
Born January 22, 1996, he has been cooking music with hip-hop influence from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Drake, Jay Z, Nas, Damien Marley and Burna Boy. “It was not a simple transition. Cultural shock is a real thing! However, that is the beauty of music. Being able to merge different sounds and retain that originality and being able to pass a clear message. This is why it is such an interesting thing for me. Even with the little strides I have made, I still want to go higher, do better music like my newest project. Just like Burna Boy winning the Grammy, it’s something I want for myself in the not too distant future and I realize I have to be original, work hard and be determined to get it.” Listening to music, workout, reading & more brought about a calm demeanor to his person. This nature has helped him develop his sound. “Every time my song is played to every conscious piece of life, it’s a reward for me. My satisfaction is that my message is being listened to”.
Through listening to an array of top artists globally, He noticed all these artists had an authentic sound and story they wanted to share with the world. This influenced him and gave him the courage to start making his own music. Jesse Roar has several songs in his catalogue.
