Sony Music Entertainment West Africa Limited, under exclusive licence from Avante Digital concepts limited releases Holy Father official music video where Mayorkun is on a mission to rescue Victony.
The Semzi-Beat-produced track is off Mayor of Lagos second studio album titled Back In Office. On his long overdue sophomore album, Mayorkun blends influences from across Africa`s regions into a coherent body of work. From the East African lyrics on “Nakupenda” to the Southern African rhythms of the title track, he varies his sonics with an accomplished dexterity.
The rest of the record is characterised by a number of notable collaborations, including ”˜Desire`, a sunkissed jam featuring the seductive autotune vocals of Ghanaian songbird Gyakie. Nigerian rapper Victony also delivers a slick verse on the vibrant ”˜Holy Father`, singer-songwriter Flavour N`abania lends his intricate vocals to the delicate ”˜Feel Am`, while South African record producer, DJ and vocalist DJ Maphorisa lends his production skills to the amapiano-infused ”˜Jay Jay`. When asked about – ‘Holy Father‘, Mayorkun shared; “Victony is very talented, and he came up with this idea. I felt like he was talking to a girl, and it sounded like he was likening her to God in a way. Like, how you surrender””that`s what you do to God. So, I just tried to play around with that on my verses and flip it.”
