Tiwa Savage, is one of the very few artistes in Africa, who commands so much respect at just the mention of her name and this point was fully buttressed with the visuals to her ‘If I Start To Talk’ song.
Now, this song from my point of view is a deeply personal and raw account of just how far and how much she has with no other help but God’s being able to pass through and emerge even stronger… sorry a QUEEN! It is in the most creative way a beautifully told story of self awareness and healing.
The title and the message in this record is potent with the visual coming off as a very artistic creation. Given the amount of lurid media speculation leading from Tiwa as a person, to an artiste, to a wife and mum, one would have expected her to in every way she could avert attention from these parts, but not Tiwa, she was a professional and owned every scene in this song.
Tiwa, without as much as a tiny blob of visible sweat told her life story and that of an average Nigerian woman in less than 4 minutes, employing the best of costumes, facial gestures, wonderful plot and even more amazing raw yet inspiring visuals, I mean darling, her ability to portray nude people in the video and yet make it look classy and educative.
Coupled with the soothing yet powerful vocals this record is laced with, If I Start To Talk, is a thrilling and stunningly honest way everyone was welcomed into the life of the QUEEN of music. Her ability to envelope her audience in this brutal and fatal exploration of her life, is beyond sick! Every scene in this video feels absolutely necessary, which ferociously yet gently and genuinely gripping the body mind and soul of her audience.
From her creative yet literary presentation of an abused and battered and assaulted wife, woman and citizen and then queen, Tiwa’s ability to make this video a success is amazing. This is the perfect example of the feeling you get when watching Will Smith in The Pursuit Of Happyness, clap his hands together while in the midst of the crowd, after he had been offered a job.
This review now would not be complete without the support of Dr Sid, on the track…my respect for this man has gone a bar higher, bless you sir!
To Clarence Peters for doing such an amazing job….You shall make heaven in Jesus name!
Being among the few top stars to have experimented with their sound on anew album, I dare say Tiwa Savage’s attempt is a success. This video shows a person who is totally and lovingly in control and must not be played with.
Tiwa, LEMO – Nailed this song and I couldn’t be more in love with the QUEEN.
