Media figure Ifedayo Olarinde, known as Daddy Freeze, has responded to singer Rema’s large donation to a church. Recall that, Rema donated N105 million during his Thanksgiving at Christ Embassy with his family, which sparked a lot of reactions.
The media figure famous for criticizing pastors mentioned that the Calm Down star should have contributed more to the church. Daddy Freeze stated that Rema donated N105 million to a church that invested in him. While talking about his donation, Rema reflected on the church’s support for his family. After his father passed away when he was eight, the church set up a shop for his mother. This shop helped them get through a hard period when they had nothing.
Daddy Freeze claimed that Rema should have offered more. He wrote:
“So unlike you going to sow your seed in church, Rema is taking part of his ‘Harvest’ to those who sowed their seed in him. As far as I’m concerned he should even give them more. God bless the pastor that sowed into his family.”

Meanwhile, arriving in his cherished hometown of Benin, Edo State, just days before his highly anticipated homecoming concert, Rema performed his hit song ‘Calm Down’ at a special event held at the Royal Palace. The performance was a tribute to Benin’s rich cultural heritage and was met with widespread admiration throughout the city. Rema’s visit to the palace of His Royal Majesty, Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II, was a deeply respectful gesture. He performed ‘Calm Down’ in the sacred space of the palace, kneeling and bowing in reverence, which added a significant cultural touch to his return.
The atmosphere during the performance was electric, with the royal court and guests joining in and singing along. This moment highlighted Rema’s profound connection to his roots and his appreciation for the land that shaped his journey. The homecoming concert is set to take place on August 30 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and has been eagerly awaited since its announcement in July.
During his visit, Rema also met with the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, and mingled with the city’s elite, expressing gratitude for the support he has received throughout his career. In a separate development, Rema recently spoke about his high-profile performance at the wedding of Anant Ambani, the son of India’s wealthiest man Mukesh Ambani, and Radhika Merchant, daughter of pharmaceutical magnates Viren and Shaila Merchant. Reports had suggested Rema was paid $3 million (around N4.5 billion) for the event.
In an interview with GRM Daily, Rema addressed the speculation with a light-hearted response:
“Hehehe, that is all I can say to be honest. Financially, it was a great achievement, and the experience was beautiful. I love India, and India loves me too. It feels amazing to benefit from something that people once trolled and criticized me for. It’s a testament to not giving up despite the negativity. Four years later, it paid off big time.”
Additionally, in an interview with GRM Daily’s “Thoughts In A Culli,” hosted by Post, the CEO of GRM Daily, Rema discussed his career and his place in the Afrobeats genre. Reflecting on competing with Afrobeats icons like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido, Rema emphasized his respect for his peers and his focus on personal growth rather than rivalry. He noted that while fan-driven comparisons might create perceptions of competition, he values mutual respect and support among artists outside of music.
