A new update has emerged regarding the tragic loss of Patoranking’s sister and her husband, Chioma and George O Buchi, who sadly passed away this week.
The news of Patoranking’s sister and her husband’s deaths left many Nigerians in shock and mourning. According to Instagram blogger Cutie Juls, the couple died in a tragic gas explosion at their home. Film producer and media personality Seun Oloketuyi recently provided more details from Chioma’s close friend, Uchechi. She recounted that on that fateful day, Patoranking’s sister and her husband were upstairs with their three-year-old son, enjoying a quiet afternoon, unaware of the impending danger.
George noticed a strange burning smell and decided to investigate, with Chioma following behind him while their child slept upstairs. As Patoranking’s sister and her husband approached the door to identify the source of the odor, a massive explosion suddenly occurred, causing severe injuries. George suffered critical burns and was put in a coma, while Chioma, though injured, displayed remarkable courage. She managed to call friends and her father for help before they were both rushed to the hospital by neighbors.
Despite her injuries, Chioma remained alert enough to take calls, which offered a brief glimmer of hope amid the chaos. Sadly, that hope was short-lived as she passed away from her injuries on August 30 at around 7:38 PM, leaving her family, including Patoranking, devastated by the loss of his sister and her husband.
The situation surrounding the tragic deaths of Patoranking’s sister and her husband became even more complicated as initial claims about the cause of the explosion were quickly dismissed. According to Seun Oloketuyi’s investigation, the couple’s inverter battery and gas cylinder were ruled out as causes, and the generator was situated far from the main house, adding to the mystery surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, Patoranking recently built a new mini-stadium in his community, Ebute Meta. The artist, who grew up in Ebute Meta, gave back to his community through this newly constructed stadium, providing a space for local youth to play sports and develop their athletic talents.

While unveiling the stadium on his X account, Patoranking stated, “God blessed Me, I Blessed my People, I built this from a place of love to unite my Community Ebute Metta…First of Many World Best.”
This was not the first time the artist had empowered people or communities. Patoranking is well-known for his philanthropic efforts, having previously supported educational initiatives and youth empowerment programs in Nigeria and other African countries.
In a related news, Patoranking previously reflected on his challenging journey to stardom saying how he and his father once hawked on the streets of Lagos just to make ends meet. Despite growing up in the Lagos urban slum of Ebute Meta—where he recently built a mini-stadium—Patoranking remained focused and overcame numerous obstacles to achieve his goals.
Patoranking made these remarks while accepting the role of UNDP Goodwill Africa Ambassador for Youth Innovation, Enterprise, and the SDGs at the launch of the Timbuktoo Fintech Hub in Lagos by the United Nations Development Programme. He stated:
“I hawked on the streets of Lagos with my father. Many years ago, I used to sell on this street [Kings Way road]. It used to be a very hot spot for trading. Many years after, everything that I pictured I wanted to become, the man I wanted to become is who I am now. So when I was driving down to this place it was a little bit teary moment for me because I saw myself [on this road],”
The ‘Alubarika’ crooner urged the youth to harness their talents in developing their communities and Africa at large. He advocated for a borderless Africa, aligned with “the 4ps – burning borders and building bridges – that I live by.” Patoranking added:
“That is why I have songs with artistes from Uganda, Kenya, Ghana and so on. I accept to be the UNDP Goodwill Africa Ambassador for Youth Innovation, Enterprise and the SDGs. Today I am not just an artiste, I am a voice for many African youths who desire to make Africa work for themselves and their communities.”
