Ashanti, at 43, has welcomed her first child with husband Nelly, 49. The couple’s son arrived last month, and Ashanti announces first child joyous news on Instagram yesterday, August 21. She posted a photo and video of her postpartum body, noting, “Four weeks postpartum. You have no idea what this body can do.”
In her caption, Ashanti opened up about adjusting to motherhood and the fourth trimester, expressing, “Funny how life’s plans aren’t…always on time.. lol. I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings!” She also gave a nod to the postpartum underwear she’s been using, saying, “I’m so proud of my body for giving me my baby, baby, baby, baby, baby.”
Ashanti revealed to Entertainment Tonight that their baby boy is named Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, born a bit early on July 18, 2024. She shared that Kenkaide is in honor of her father.
The couple, who secretly married in December 2023, are now adjusting to their new family life. Nelly has two children from previous relationships—daughter Chanelle Haynes, 30, and son Cornell Haynes III, 25—as well as adopted children Shawn and Sydney Thomas, whom he took in after the death of his sister Jackie Donahue in 2005.
