Cardi B became the first woman to win a Grammy award for Best Rap Album after she took home the honour at the 61st annual Grammy Awards ceremonies. She was joined onstage by Offset as she accepted the trophy for her “Invasion of Privacy” album which happens to be her debut album.
Her husband; Offset accompanied her to the podium as she went to collect her award and give her speech. Cardi who was overwhelmed at the announcement of her name; said “I want to thank my daughter,” she said during the speech. “I`m not just saying thank you because she`s my daughter. It`s because, you know, when I found out I was pregnant, my album was not complete, like three songs that I was for sure having. And then you know, you know how it was, we was like, we have to get this album done so I could still do videos while I`m still not showing. And it was very long nights.”
Other household names that won in the night are Drake, whose “God’s Plan” record won an award for best rap song of the year, Ariana Grande who won in the category for best vocal album with her “Sweetener,” Lady Gaga who won in two categories and many more.
