Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana better known by his stage name Falz, has vowed to seek justice for a northern singer who dissed Kano State Governor in his song.
The Northern singer identified as Mohammed Yusuf aka AGY was sentenced to two years in prison for defaming the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state, in a song which went viral.
Falz also became a victim of injustice when his track This is Nigeria which highlighted Nigerian issues including corruption and bribery was banned by the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) in 2018. The reason for the ban was because of its lyrics which are vulgar and in contravention of the NBC Code.
However, many believe that the true reason behind the ban was because the higher-ups were not pleased with the song and wanted it completely out of the ears of Nigerians.
The Ello Bae singer upon seeing the news which is quite similar to his case, took to his Instagram page to express his disgust at the unjust sentence. According to him, he regards the act as a shameful one and would stop at nothing to get justice for the singer.
He wrote HATE to see stuff like this! This is 2019. Any individual who feels defamed by any statement made by another person can sue for libel or slander under the law of defamation. It is shameful to see public officers using the machinery of the state to harass citizens and attempting to hinder our inalienable freedom of expression.
