Nigerian singer and influencer, Speed Darlington, recently caused a stir when he declared his interest to run for presidency.
In the same breath, he mentioned that many entertainers have developed interests in politics following his lead.
Among those mentioned were Tonto Dikeh, the husband of Mercy Johnson, Prince Okojie and Regina Daniels with her husband. This has sparked a conversation about whether entertainers should be encouraged to join politics.
For Darlington, the increased involvement of entertainers in politics has been a double-edged sword. On one hand, he is encouraged by the idea that more people are getting involved in the political process, but on the other hand he is perplexed at the notion of everybody wanting to be a politician.
