Nigerian artist David Adeleke, better known as Davido, and his wife Chioma Ejiofor’s wedding planner, Funke Bucknor Obruthe, has shared new insights about their highly anticipated wedding and the planning journey.
On her YouTube channel, Funke revealed that Davido first approached her in 2020 to handle the wedding arrangements. The couple ultimately tied the knot on June 25, 2024, leading to a range of reactions from Nigerians as photos and videos from the event spread online. While some fans were critical of the decorations and speculated that the planning might have been rushed, others were intrigued by the behind-the-scenes details.
Funke recounted the initial meeting with Davido and Chioma: “In 2020, I met Davido after one of his performances. He told me, ‘You are planning my wedding.’ But then, due to unforeseen circumstances, the planning had to be paused.”
She continued, “By early 2024, I received a message from Davido saying, ‘Aunty Funke, my sister will call you.’ When I asked about the reason, he said it was related to his wedding. It was then that I realized the planning was back on track.”
Funke also mentioned that she had previously organized Davido’s sister Coco’s wedding and subsequently received calls from Davido’s other sister Sharon and Chioma’s sister Jennifer. They all collaborated to plan what was set to be one of Nigeria’s grandest weddings of 2024.
