Jennifer Lopez, 55, is requesting to revert to her maiden name in her divorce proceedings from Ben Affleck.
The singer and actress filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, on August 20, following a two-year marriage. In her divorce filing, Lopez has asked the court to restore her original name, Jennifer Lopez. She cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the separation and indicated that neither she nor Affleck will seek spousal support.
Jennifer Lopez has also addressed the division of their assets and debts, noting that the specifics of their separate property and obligations are currently unclear. She has reserved the right to update her petition as more details are determined.
The couple reportedly did not have a prenuptial agreement, which could lead to disputes over their assets, including their $68 million Beverly Hills home, which is on the market. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were married in a Las Vegas ceremony on July 17, 2022, followed by a larger celebration in Savannah, Georgia, in August. In a December 2022 interview with Vogue, Lopez expressed her pride in being Mrs. Affleck and discussed her decision to legally change her last name.
“We’re husband and wife. I’m proud of that. I don’t think that’s a problem,” she shared at the time. Despite the change, she noted, “people are still going to call me Jennifer Lopez,” emphasizing that her “legal name” would be “Mrs. Affleck because we’re joined together.” Lopez considered the name change a “romantic” gesture, reflecting her view that it carried tradition and romance.
