Lagos State Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin has criticized rising artist Ayo Maff for the controversial content of his latest track “Last Week.”
The Lagos Police PRO expressed strong disapproval of the song’s lyrics, describing them as “indecent” and raising concerns about their potential influence on youth. In particular, Ayo Maff’s lyrics include references to using “Canadian Loud,” a potent strain of imported marijuana, and interactions with a drug dealer throughout the week.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin emphasized that such lyrics glamorizing drug use could contribute to substance abuse among young people and lead to criminal behavior. He pointed out that a significant portion of youth currently in detention have ties to drug abuse, underscoring the serious consequences associated with illegal drug use.
The remarks came following widespread circulation of a snippet of Ayo Maff’s song on various media platforms, prompting a public debate about the portrayal of drug-related themes in music and their societal impact.
The PPRO wrote,Β βHe does what on Mondays and Saturdays? Help me listen.
βLike Asa said, there is fire on the mountain and nobody seems to be on the runβ¦
βFact: Half of the young ones in prison today wouldnβt be there if they didnβt do drugs. Drugs is a precursor to everything bad.
βEni a wi funβ¦β
