
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Onyeka Onwenu. In a statement released on Wednesday by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), President Tinubu acknowledged Ms. Onwenu’s multifaceted contributions as a singer, songwriter, actress, journalist, activist, and politician. The statement highlighted President Tinubu’s mourning of “the Queen of Songs,” known for her inspiring and melodious rendition of ‘One Love’ in the 1990s, which fostered a spirit of unity and harmony.
The President also remembered Onwenu’s significant artistic contributions, including her classic collaboration with King Sunny Ade on ‘Wait for Me,’ a memorable campaign for family planning in the 1980s. President Tinubu praised the versatile and gifted artist for her extensive involvement in the arts, bringing joy and laughter to many. He extended his condolences to the entertainment industry, the Imo State Government, and her countless fans, acknowledging the profound loss.
The President prayed for Onwenu’s soul, wishing her eternal peace and a place where “the music never fades and there is ‘Dancing in the Sun’.” He concluded by affirming that Ms. Onwenu’s legacy endures through her timeless masterpieces.
