Former University of Benin Director of Socials makes a big splash on the Afro beat Alte genre scene with a highlife remix like no other.
Idami 2.0 has been described as a fusion explosion with old American western style guitar intro, Amapiano high hats, running trumpet, dull sounding kicks accompanied with Carlos Santana type flamenco guitar melody.
This song also has a big reverb type chant chorus alongside a little known Obito dance guitar break melody made popular in Benin City, Southern Nigeria by the very composer of the Original Idami song; Osayomore Joseph.
Oriri Osayomore won his student union director of social position in 2006 with arguably the highest vote count ever recorded for a director of social candidate with a genius strategy. Advised by Dr Osaigbovo Eriamator, he walked into the girls hostel and reading rooms with his guitar in hand serenading everybody who cared to listen and then sharing his flyer while urging them to vote for him. It is the same sweet guitar lines he features heavily on this new song.
The “alte genre” of afrobeat already features artists like The Cavemen, Wave The Creator and Jdess. A song like Idami 2.0 Is the reintroduction of the last frontier of Nigerian music as we begin to see the full spectrum of what modern Afro beat will look like going forward.
We have seen the “hip hop” side of it with the likes of Phyno and Olamide, we have also seen the “Fela” side of it with Femi, Made and Seun. However this is a reintroduction of “dance band” style local music from “Old Bendel” on the modern Nigerian music stage. Even though Nigerian music audiences have matured and grown exponentially over the years and are open to any kind of music you throw at them, most Nigerians still haven`t heard music from Benin City.
