Internet users have raised suspicions after Usher’s entire X (formerly Twitter) account was temporarily deleted, coinciding with the recent arrest of his mentor, Sean “Diddy“ Combs, on federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges.
When Usher’s account was reinstated, the eight-time Grammy winner addressed the situation in a post on Sunday, September 22, stating, “Account got hacked and damn y’all ran with it! See you tonight at Intuit Dome.” However, many X users were quick to question the timing, suggesting it might not be just a coincidence.
Some users expressed their doubts, with one commenting, “You must really think we are stupid,” and another saying, “What?? Lol, timing is JUST a coincidence huh?” Others were similarly skeptical, with one asking, “Did your account really get hacked, or you’re not telling us something?” and another calling the explanation “a perfect copout.” One user speculated that the account deletion could be a sign of trouble ahead for Usher in light of Diddy’s arrest, saying, “Good cover. For now. The first domino has been triggered. Now we watch you all fall.”
Despite the skepticism, some users came to Usher’s defense, with one writing, “I been tweeted this EVERYWHERE that your acct was hacked and these ppl spreading fake news, GO OFF KING!”
The relationship between Usher and Diddy is well-known, with Diddy serving as an executive producer on Usher’s debut album, Usher, released in 1994. Usher also lived with Diddy as a teenager while learning the music business in the 1990s. Reflecting on that time, Usher told Rolling Stone in 2004, “You’d open a door and see somebody doing it, or several people in a room having an orgy. You never knew what was going to happen.” He admitted that while there were “always girls around,” he didn’t fully engage until he was 19 in 1997.
In a 2016 interview with Howard Stern, Usher elaborated on his time living with Diddy, saying, “I got a chance to see some things. I went there to see the lifestyle, and I saw it. I don’t know if I could indulge and understand what I was even looking at. I had curiosity of my own. I just didn’t understand it. It was pretty wild. It was crazy.”
