Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, better known as Portable, has stirred up fresh controversy with his latest song, which has gone viral for addressing recent hunger protests. The street-pop artist faced backlash online after he chose not to join the nationwide protests against hunger. Reports suggest that Portable lost over 100,000 Instagram followers as a result of his decision not to participate in the protests. It has been claimed that the singer, who was once impoverished, now finds himself in a different financial position and thus felt disconnected from the protest’s aims.
In response to the criticism, Portable has released a new track to clarify his stance. The song reveals his preference for pursuing a political career over participating in protests, stating, “Instead of protesting, I go contest.”
He also commented on the broader political landscape, noting that Nigeria’s issues did not start with President Tinubu and expressing that he won’t be swayed into undermining the country.
