Jesse Jagz

Jesse Jagz, full names Jesse Garba Abaga born August 10, 1984 is a Nigerian hip hop artist, rapper, singer, producer and songwriter. Previously signed to Chocolate City music label with his elder brother Jude Abaga (MI), he has since started his own imprint named Jagz Nation.

Jagz who has been described as Nigeria’s Kanye West as a result of his constant experimentation with different music genres is a native of Jukun, a town in Taraba state, Nigeria. Growing up, he got access to musical instruments at a young age thanks to his clergy parents back then in Jos. Before getting together with his brother to start  Inner Hub Studios in 2004, Jagz had been part of two music groups, “Gospel Insanity” and “Eleven Thirty”. In 2006, his hit single “Africa” got massive airplay in Nigerian radio stations and not long after, he released a couple of songs that soon became street anthems.

2009 saw him dropping his debut music video to the hit single  “Pump It Up” which got good reviews. His debut album came shortly afterwards titled, “Jag of all Tradez ” with the tracks “Wetin Dey”, “Pussy Cat”, “Jargo”, “Sugar Cane Baby”, “My Brother” among others under Chocolate City entertainment company. Though absent from the music scene for a while, he came back after parting ways with Chocolate City in 2013, to drop his second album “Jagz Nation Vol 1; Thy Nation Come “. The album which had more of  a reggae feel, contained several tracks including “Murder them” and “Redemption”. Jagz Nation Vol. 2; Royal Niger Company, a sequel to his second album was released in 2014 and has been doing well so far.

He has featured top artists the likes of M.I, Modenine, Silver Saddih, Banky W, Majek Fashek, Ruby, Ice Prince, Faze, Djinee, Kel, Shank, Tosin Martins, Sasha, Djah Djah (def jam poetry), Kahli, Pherowshuz and many more.
